Edward W. May

Originally from Calgary, Alberta, Edward W. May (“Eddie”) is an incoming third-year law student at the University of New Brunswick and the newly elected President of the UNB Law Student Society. With a passion for advocacy and public policy, Eddie’s legal interests center on civil litigation, Indigenous law, energy law, and resource development.

Eddie moved to New Brunswick in part to be closer to his twin brother, Joey, an Infantry Officer with the 2nd Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment based at CFB Gagetown. Family has always been a central pillar in Eddie’s life, and the opportunity to pursue his legal education while supporting and staying connected to his brother was a meaningful factor in choosing UNB Law. Eddie also holds deep respect for Canadian Armed Forces members and takes pride in supporting those who serve.

Prior to law school, Eddie earned a Bachelor of Commerce with a specialization in International Business from the University of Victoria. He brings a strong business and community leadership foundation, honed through work in property management, construction operations, business development, and legal administration. This experience developed his sensible and solution-oriented approach to legal issues.

Eddie is the founding president of the UNB Law Future of Energy Club, where he leads student engagement with Canada’s evolving energy landscape through academic discussion and industry collaboration. His previous experience as a summer legal intern provided exposure to a general practice environment, where he supported research and drafting across various legal fields, including property, commercial, family, and criminal law.

In addition to his academic and leadership pursuits, Eddie is a five-time rider and fundraiser for the Tour Alberta for Cancer. In 2022, he was recognized with the Heart and Soul Award for his continued dedication. Additionally, Eddie is very community-oriented, as seen through roles such as volunteer minor hockey coach and student mentor for incoming law students. Eddie continues to value mentorship and teamwork in every environment.

Eddie is excited to continue his legal development as a Legal Intern with Castle & Associates. He looks forward to gaining deeper insight into the practical dimensions of legal practice and to contributing meaningfully to the firm’s work while expanding his skills in research, drafting, and client service. Eddie sees this opportunity as an important step in refining his interests and building the experience necessary to serve clients with confidence and integrity.

Outside of law, Eddie is an avid road cyclist and long-distance runner, having previously completed gran fondo’s and a marathon. Additionally, Eddie has played collegiate and junior A hockey, which allowed him to participate in high-level sport in British Columbia, Alberta, and Saskatchewan. He brings energy, focus, and a collaborative mindset to all areas of his work, always being guided by a strong sense of service and community.
